Looking forward to our first appearance of this year at the Gateshead and North East Ceilidh Club dance on Tuesday 5th March, and perhaps a chance to show off some of our newer members and new tunes!
The band had a smashing night playing for a birthday party at Ryton Golf Club (Clara Vale).
As space was limited only seven of us were able to play, but the sound worked well and the guests all seemed to enjoy the dancing as much as we enjoyed playing.
Gateshead & North East Ceilidh Club will hold its fiorst ceilidh of 2019 on 5th February. Due to the absence of the Redheughers band leader the ceilidh will be supported by David Oliver with the Hexham Village Band.
Members of the Redheughers have been invited to join in if they wish.
Dont forget its our AGM this week – about 6.30 in our normal rehearsal venue.
Each year our member Alan Alden plays carols for Ashburton Residents association, in Ashburton Road, Gosforth. Here’s what he said about it this year
We had really good day but verry, very cold.
We played for about 20/30 minutes then retired to our for coffee etc and to thaw out then reuturned for a similar stint.
I was joined by Ken, Marilyn, Malcom and Jen and it all sounded great. I think they enjoyed it despite the cold.
Our Christmas Ceilidh was a great success with more attending for the dancing and also more players than usual in the band. We all had a great time.
Ceilidhs are on the first Tuesday of each month; however for January 2019 that would be New Years Day.
All other Tuesday evenings that month are booked up, so it has reluctantly been decided that there will be no Ceilidh in January.
Last nights Ceilidh at St Mary’s was well attended by both dancers and band, with a good proportion of new faces. Judging from the laughter everyone had a great time.
Next public ceilidh at St Mary’s is on 6 November – hope to see you all there!
