About the Redheughers
The Redheughers are a popular and successful ceilidh band in Gateshead in North East England specialising in dance tunes from Northumbria and the Scottish Borders.
Our band leader Robin Dunn has been playing for dancing (Rapper, Morris and Social) for thirty-odd years now and calling for over twenty five of them. He started as a musician (fiddle and mandolin) playing solo and in bands. He worked with various callers for about five years before becoming one of them. He turned professional about twenty years ago and has played and called for many bands; his present band is ‘Fiddler’s Elbow’.
He also writes lots of great tunes, and has two albums of his own compositions as well as two books to his name.
Robin has run our weekly dance-band workshop on Tuesday nights for the last twenty-three years at various venues in Gateshead. The first venue was the old Redheugh Library, so when we started playing on the first Tuesday of every month for a monthly ceilidh we took the name – The Redheughers.
